The College of Nursing holds a public discussion of a master’s thesis

 

At the College of Nursing at the University of Kufa, the public discussion of the master’s thesis for the student (Zayd Dhiab Abdul-Kazim) entitled (The Effectiveness of the Educational Program for Caregivers of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder) took place.
The study aims that autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties in communication and social interaction, as well as repetitive or restricted activities and interests. Mental disorders are one of the main causes of disability worldwide. The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational program for caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorders and to assess the knowledge and behavior of caregivers and knowledge of the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and the knowledge and attitude of caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorder. The current study used a quasi-experimental design to determine the effect of an educational program among caregivers of children with autism. Between December 1, 2021 and November 2, 2022. This research was conducted among caregivers of children with autism in Iraq/Najaf, both in rural and urban areas. A purposeful, non-probability sample of (52) caregivers from the Imam Hussein Autism Center (IHAC) was selected, and it was (37) and a sample (15) from the Imam Ali Institute in the city of Najaf. Caregivers aged 27-36 (46.2%), and female caregivers (61.5%) who graduated from college and college (28.8%) and high schools (28.8%), showed that the overall assessment of carers knowledge of children with ASD before Application of the educational program (acceptable) average score = 1.51. Caregiver, age, education level, autism spectrum disorder training, occupation and residence were statistically significant while other criteria related to the caregivers’ sociodemographic characteristics were not significant, with respect to cognitive skills. Educational programs should be designed to increase parents’ knowledge of how to deal with their children and provide scientific handbooks, publications and journals on autism spectrum disorder
