The Maternal and Newborn Health Nursing Branch in the College of Nursing held a workshop entitled “Painless Normal Delivery” at Al-Zahra Hall (S). They discussed the topics of the workshop. Natural childbirth takes place without pain when small amounts of anesthesia are given to the spine through a catheter, and it is called epidural anesthesia, and the lower part of the body is anesthetized. It is the most effective way to remove pain during natural childbirth, as there are different ways to remove pain during natural childbirth, and one of the most famous and well-known methods among women is spinal anesthesia.
Epidural anesthesia may be performed at any time during childbirth. However, some doctors wait until the cervix expands for more than 4 centimeters and until the contractions of the uterine muscles strengthen, as the baby will be born faster. First, the catheter will be placed in the epidural area, and then the amount of anesthesia will be reduced at the end of the delivery process to help the woman push effectively. The anesthesia continues until after the placenta has come out.
Epidural injection is a very safe procedure that can significantly reduce or even stop pain compared to other types of analgesics or anesthesia.
