Department of Fundamentals of Nursing

Vision:

The Fundamental of Nursing Department at College of Nursing, University of Kufa is looking to take a pioneer place between all different scientific branches in the college and other corresponding colleges. Fundamental of Nursing Department has the ability to compete with higher nursing educational institutions at both regional, national and international levels.

Mission:

The Fundamental of Nursing Department mission lies in putting the cornerstone of nursing study at the academic level through providing scientific subjects that are compatible with sophisticated concepts and scientific practice skills. The mission is to prepare the nursing student who will be qualified to provide holistic nursing care at different health care settings of Ministry of Health. The nursing student will gain knowledge and practical skills at the Fundamental of Nursing Department as well as provide many experiential learning methods in scientific nursing specialties. The program of this branch is providing all the requirements for the stakeholders according to a planned scientific research projects that are conducted annually.

Objectives:

1.Application of organizational analytical skills based on a comprehensive knowledge depth in the use of the nursing process in a various places that providing nursing care.

2.Organizing the nursing process in a way that determines the individual and total nature of the patient, family and community.

3.Provide comprehensive and effective nursing care based on the rules of treatment and prevention of diseases as well as rehabilitation with places to provide nursing care.

4.Establishment and maintenance of effective work and cooperative relations with the patient and nurses and other members of the health team.

5.Apply the scientific research process and results as a guide to solving health problems and set the nursing procedures

6.The use of methods of analysis, installation and critical thinking in the educational process of the branch as well as preparing students to apply in the workplace.

First: Preliminary research

*  Assessment of the Patients’ Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice on  Self Administration of Insulin Therapy.

*  Assessment of Functional Status of Patients with Asthma.

*  Patients Satisfaction with Nursing Care provided in Middle Euphrates Cancer Center.

*  Risk factors of cholelithasis for patients’ requiring surgery in Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf City.

Second: Graduate Research

*  Effectiveness of Nursing Educational Program on Nurse’s Knowledge Regarding Pain   Management for Postoperative Patients

*  Effectiveness of Nursing Instructional Programs on Self-Management on Ischemic Heart Disease patient’s Knowledge

*  Effect of Preoperative Breathing Exercise on Postoperative Patients’ Lung functions.

*  Effectiveness of educational program on nurses’ knowledge toward preventing female catheter -associated urinary tract infection.

Third: General Research

*  Evaluation of nurse’s performance regarding intravenous cannulation at  Al -Najaf Al-ashraf teaching hospital
